Athletics

First grade students at pond on campus

The purpose of Community School’s athletic program is to provide an opportunity for children of all levels of experience, skill, and ability to participate in sports and be part of a team.

Children gain exposure to sports and improve upon foundational skills. They also acquire the necessary skills of being positive team members. Coaches, players, and teams set goals and strive to give a winning effort in each contest - and yes, they revel in and celebrate winning when it occurs.

Junior Kindergarten-Second Grade

Students in junior kindergarten through second grade may sign up for teams that are organized and coached by parent volunteers. The emphasis is on skills development and fun, and all teams adhere to Community School’s philosophy of inclusion and whole team participation. Teams participate in area community leagues.

Third-Sixth Grade

Students in grades three through six may sign up for after school teams in cross country, basketball, volleyball, and track/field. Teams are coached by Community School teachers and coaches, most of whom competed at the college and high school level. Many of them are currently coaching high school sports at area St. Louis schools. Teams practice on campus after school, and compete against other St. Louis area independent schools. Teams adhere to Community School’s philosophy of inclusion and whole team participation.
