Preschool
Preschool is a time of critical growth for young learners as they create and explore.
Our nursery and junior kindergarten programs set the foundation for learning at Community School. The developmental approach starts here where each child comes to know and appreciate their own particular set of strengths. Our students learn by doing, which fuels their intellectual, emotional, creative, and social growth. It is here that the sparks of curiosity ignite and a lifelong love of learning begins. It is here, too, that a sense of community develops as our youngest students interact with and learn from older students.
Children have daily opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as foundational language arts, literacy, and math skills. Subjects like science, art, French, and music are integrated into the curriculum by classroom teachers and specialists who visit each week. It is also here, starting in our youngest grades, that children are able to speak in front of others in both small and large groups, whether it’s talking about current events during circle time or standing up at lunch to announce their birthdays.
