Faculty Friday - Sarah Brubaker
This week's Friday Faculty Spotlight features 6th grade teacher Sarah Brubaker! An educator for fourteen years, she has taught in public, charter, and independent schools. Sarah has been at Community for the past four years, first in 5th grade, then 6th. Her Community claim to fame may be her ability (and propensity) to burst into song at any time (and on any topic)! Let’s learn some more:
Favorite subject to teach? Math!!! I love to show students that they do have the ability to do math regardless of past experiences!
Defining moment as an educator? I had an administrator place me in a position that I did not think I was capable of doing. But that decision changed the courses of my teaching career and ultimately, it led me to my job as the 6th grade math teacher at Community.
Favorite CS memory? I enjoy watching students share their speeches at Sixth Grade Graduation. It is a culmination of their time here and it always brings tears to my eyes.
Why Community? Community is a community of teachers, staff, students, and families. It is a safe place to walk into every day and feel supported!
Favorite spot on campus? I love working in our sixth grade classroom. We have an incredible view of the woods and wildlife on our campus.
Favorite food? Gluten free brownies
Favorite team? St. Louis Cardinals
States lived in? Missouri
Hobbies? I love to sing and refinish furniture
Family: I have been married to my husband Andrew for 14 years. We have two kids - Grayson is 8 and Emma is 6. And. . . there’s a new one on the way!
Favorite band? I could listen to John Mayer all day every day!
Favorite children’s author/book? The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
Favorite memory from your time as a student? When I was in 6th Grade, I had a teacher that allowed us to wear pajamas to school and read on the floor. It was a simple day that has stuck with me for all these years.
