Faculty Friday - Kris Major

Friday, November 9, 2018

Our Faculty Friday Spotlight this week is on Nursery teacher Kris Major! Kris has a full quarter century of experience with preschool age children, and has been at Community for the last 11 years. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge of developmentally appropriate ways to teach and engage our very youngest learners. With her peers, Kris is known for her irreverent sense of humor and the fact that she always has chocolate somewhere in her desk! And she also has an uncanny ability to find deals and win contests. Let’s learn some more:

Favorite subject to teach?  I love being a part of facilitating and guiding 3-4 year olds as they begin to navigate and figure out relationships. It is an amazing honor to know that I am at the foundation, taking part in growing their social and emotional skills as they start to build first friendships!

Favorite CS memory? Getting the call that I was being offered a teaching position

Why Community? Community is a well rounded school that has a lot to offer to children and families and I knew that I needed to be a part of it! As an educator, Community is good for the soul!

Community School claim to fame? Lowenhaupt Award Recipient

Favorite spot on campus? In the Nursery classroom's comfy reading chair with a child on my lap or sharing the seat with me as we snuggle in with a good book.

Favorite food?  Mexican

Favorite team? Visitation's Volleyball and Basketball teams

States lived in? Just Missouri

Hobbies? Shopping

Pets? Guinea Pigs, a turtle, fish and a couple of iguanas

Family: Two kids, 8 and 11

Favorite band? P!NK

Favorite children’s author/book? I love a good laugh so I like to read books that are funny. So I enjoy books written by the author Robert Munsch

Favorite memory from your time as a student? I loved all of my final years at schools! Like 8th grade in elementary school, Senior year of high school and my last year of college! Each of those momentous years were filled with activities that made them very exciting, special and memorable in their own unique ways!
