Faculty Friday - Kathy Lepsky
Our Faculty Friday Spotlight this week is on Upper Division Science teacher Kathy Lepsky! With 19 years in education (the last 4 at Community), her favorite subject to teach is – no surprise! – science. Kathy has the most amazing handwriting on the board of any teacher anywhere, and has a wonderful self-deprecating sense of humor. Equally at home wading in the pond, creating investigative crime scenes for students, or helping them program robots, her love for science shines through. Let’s find out some more:
Defining moment as an educator: When a student tells me they want to choose a science-related field because of my class.
Favorite CS memory? Sixth grade graduation each year
Why Community? We are a family that cares for one another and helps our students reach their potential.
Favorite spot on campus? Pond!!!
Favorite food? Chinese
Favorite team? Mizzou Tigers
Hobbies? Biking, swimming, traveling, shopping, reading
Pets? Two cats – Joy & Bean
Family: Husband Jason and young daughter Isabella (who just started crawling!)
Favorite band? Casting Crowns
Favorite children’s author? E.B. White
Favorite memory from your time as a student? Performing in a classroom play about Paul Bunyan. I don’t really remember what it was about, but I loved making the props and we got to throw popcorn! I also loved my time as a cheerleader in middle and high school which really helped me come out of my shell.
Other interesting fact? I was named after the last operational gold mine in Colorado, the Mollie Kathleen – my name is just reversed. I am the baby of 5 kids and we all had the same initials “KMF.”
