Bob has spent almost 40 years in education in both administration and as an educator, with the majority in independent schools. Most recently, Bob was the Upper School Director at Brentwood School (K-12) in Los Angeles, CA, where he served from 2008-2015. Prior to Brentwood, Bob served as Middle School Director (5-8) at Mounds Park Academy (PK-12) in St. Paul, MN, where he spent 16 years both in administrative and teaching roles. He earned a Masters of Arts in Education from Claremont Graduate University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Carleton College.

Nikki received a masters degree in educational leadership from Wright State University and a BS in elementary education from Miami University, Ohio. Nikki taught First and Second Grades and coached high school boys/girls tennis and girls basketball in Englewood, Ohio, for five years. Nikki then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to help open a new school and become the second grade lead teacher. After marriage, she moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she was a math coordinator for Sylvan Learning Center before relocating to St. Louis. Nikki has been the co-director of Simply Mathematics in Webster Groves, has made presentations for Teach for America's teachers, and substituted for Community School before joining the staff in 2010. She was a Lowenhaupt Award winner in 2016. Nikki enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and being outdoors.

Kathy has almost 40 years of involvement in Early Childhood Education. Prior to starting at Community School, she was the Coordinator of Preschool for the Ladue School District, a position she held for 15 years. She has worked as a teacher and administrator in various preschool settings in the St. Louis area and Richmond, Virginia. 



Kathy received her B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Development from Stephen’s College and has done graduate work at Webster University. She also studied early childhood education in England and Reggio Emilia, Italy. Kathy completed a training in School’s Attuned to identify and address learning differences, as well as Love and Logic for parents and educators. She has been active in local Early Childhood Leadership Cohorts throughout the years. Kathy and her husband Drew have two daughters and three granddaughters and she enjoys travel, music and theater.

Kristin is the Assistant to the Head of School at Community. Kristin was born in St. Louis, moved to Belgium and Minnesota, then returned to St. Louis and graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis with her bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in management and international business. Kristin previously served as Receptionist/Administrative Assistant at Community School. Prior to coming to Community School, Kristin’s background included working for Marriott International and Village Lutheran Church Preschool, as well as being a stay-at-home mom.



Kristin and her husband have two children. During her free time, she enjoys watching her children’s sports games and theater performances, as well as volunteering at her children’s school, cooking, and crafting.

Christi Callahan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Elementary Education.  She taught first grade and preschool for several years in Texas and Colorado, and worked in the office of a small private school for about 8 years prior to joining Community School.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking, traveling, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Jonelle graduated from St. Louis University with a B.A. in Communication, and earned an M.S.A. in Marketing from Lindenwood University, as well as a Master's of Teaching in Early Childhood Education from Webster University. Her teaching career began in the St. Louis Public School District where she taught first grade. Outside of school, Jonelle enjoys spending time with family and friends, working out, and volunteering at her church.

Jen is the Director of Marketing and Communications at Community School. Previously, she worked at the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement and the Office of Sustainability at Washington University. She has held several leadership roles in sustainability organizations across St. Louis and Northwest Arkansas.



Jen has a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Vassar College, and a Master of Arts in Communication and Graduate Certificate in Sustainability from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Outside of work, Jennifer enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her husband Christopher and daughter Evelyn.

Donna has worked in the accounting field for more than 30 years. The first 22 years were spent working for profit-driven organizations. Eight years ago, Donna made the conscious decision to move to the nonprofit accounting field with the desire to work for mission-driven organizations. Most recently, Donna was the Chief Financial Officer with Connections to Success. Prior to Connections, Donna was the Controller with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. She earned her Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and her MBA from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Donna was also a board member with United for Children and is a current board member with Men of Valor. Outside of work, Donna’s favorite hobby is quilting.

Trish received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis with her emphasis in the Family Nurse Practitioner track and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The Catholic University of America. For more than the last decade, Trish has been the School Nurse at Community School. Prior to this, she worked as a Pediatric/Adolescent psychiatric nurse, in Community Health Nursing and also in Primary Care. In her free time, Trish enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and doing projects around her home. She is the parent of 3 children who attended Community School.

Taylor received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has spent the past five years as a school counselor in St. Louis Public Schools but she is no stranger to Community School. While in graduate school, Taylor was a substitute teacher here and is very excited to be back! She and her husband have two children, a cat and a dog. When there is free time, she likes to explore new restaurants, paint, read and travel.

Joe earned a B.A. in History with minors in Education and Social Science at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. Joe then was hired as Technology Director and Computer/History teacher at St. Angela Merici in Florissant in January 2008. In 2011, Joe earned an M.S. in Computer Science from Fontbonne University. Joe is a big fan of films, especially foreign and cult cinema and he owns many movies and lots of movie memorabilia. He also enjoys classic rock music and still plays vinyl records! In the summers Joe and his wife travel a lot with antique shopping, hiking, and riding the biggest and fastest roller coasters usually on the agenda. Joe and his wife Chantel reside in South St. Louis.

Barb retired from Ladue School District after 33 years of working in various positions within the district - a classroom teacher for 20 years, in special services for 9 years, and a school counselor for 4 years. Prior to working in the Ladue District, Barb taught elementary school at two different parochial schools. Barb is involved in many professional organizations. In her free time, she loves writing children's stories, reading, gardening, and poetry.

Becky received her bachelor of science in education from University of Missouri-Columbia and her masters of science in speech and hearing from Washington University. Her sixteen years of teaching experience include working for the Maplewood-Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center, Special School District, and Central Institute for the Deaf. Becky and her husband have two children and a new puppy. Becky loves to create art and spend time outdoors hiking and biking with her family.

Ingrid Bonds joined Community School as a JK-West Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Ingrid graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a degree in vocal performance and music education. She earned her graduate degree in elementary education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City. Ingrid loves using a multi-sensory approach to learning and for years has infused her music teaching background into her classroom culture.  



In her spare time, Ingrid enjoys playing piano, cooking, and going on small and big travel adventures with her two children.

At Community since 2005, Darla previously worked for the St. Louis Special School District and St. John's Mercy Child Development Center. At St. John's, she administered screenings; supervised, consulted, and provided in-service training to staff of the onsite daycare/preschool program; and taught pre-school age children in a team teaching arrangement with physical therapists and speech and language pathologists. She taught for two years at St. Mark's School as a kindergarten teacher and was a substitute teacher in the Rockwood School District. She has been with Community since 2008. Amanda has worked for ten years in early childhood education as a preschool teacher in Columbia, Missouri public schools, and a kindergarten teacher at Premier Charter School in St. Louis, where she was nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2012. Martha joined Community School in 1986. She earned a bachelor of science in education from Wheelock College in Boston. She directed the Community School Play Camp for six years and worked at Burr Oak Camp as the Junior Camp art teacher for 14 years. During the summer she now teaches mini camps at Community in as well as Fundamentals. Martha enjoys knitting/crocheting, sewing, cooking, playing with her puppy Taffy and being a mom to her daughter, Libby, a Community School alum, who was recently married.

Lori has a bachelor of science in elementary and special education from the University of South Dakota and took graduate course work in special education at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Lori came to Community in 1995 from Valparaiso, Florida, where she taught first and second grade. She received an award from the Council for Exceptional Children for outstanding performance in 1991 and was selected Teacher of the Year in 1993 by the Valparaiso Elementary School. Lori and her husband, Dalfred, have two children, Ashley and Spencer. She enjoys bowling, biking, and spending time outdoors.

Rebecka Briney joined Community School as a First Grade Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Rebecka graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a B.S. in Education and is currently earning her master’s degree in Reading and Dyslexia Certificate from Webster University. Rebecka has taught abroad in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. She spent the last eight years teaching kindergarten through third grade at Premier Charter School, with five years spent in first grade where she was awarded the Early Childhood Teacher of the Year as a first grade teacher for the 2018-2019 school year.



In her spare time, Rebecka enjoys traveling, hiking, working out and spending time with friends, family, and pets (Bentley, her golden retriever mix, and Alaska and Brooke, her two cats).

Jered is a native St. Louisan and the son of two teachers. He graduated magna cum laude from Fontbonne University with a degree in elementary education. Jered has previously taught language arts at Churchill School and Learning Center and joined the Community faculty in 2006. During the summer, he can be found running around at Burr-Oak Camp as the P.E teacher as well as supervising Extended Day. Jered and his wife Angela (also a teacher!) live in Chesterfield with their three children. The whole family enjoys parks, cooking, reading, and playing washers or wiffle ball in their backyard.

A native of Missouri, Stephen returned to St. Louis in 2018 after spending eight years teaching in Massachusetts. His career in education began in southern Illinois before teaching second grade across town at Forsyth School. All of his twenty-one years of teaching have been in second and third grade. Outside of school, Stephen enjoys genealogy, taking care of his cat Jasper, bookbinding and gardening. He and his partner look forward to exploring how St. Louis has changed over their time away.

She is currently working on her master of arts at Webster University in education and innovation with an emphasis in global sustainability. Rachelle grew up in Lenexa, Kansas. She began her teaching career in Kansas City, Missouri, and then moved to St. Louis and taught in the University City School District. Rachelle's hobbies include relaxing outdoors, visiting parks and museums, going to sporting events, and exploring new attractions in St. Louis. Jessica Farris will be joining Community School as a Third Grade Teacher for the 2021-2022 school

year. Jessica attended Centre College in Danville, Kentucky where she studied elementary education and

Spanish. She received her master’s degree from Western Kentucky in teacher leadership and gifted

education. Jessica taught for five years in Lexington, Kentucky schools as a first and fourth grade

teacher, and recently has been teaching second grade in the St. Charles School District.



Jessica’s hobbies include spending time with family, running, and coaching for Aim Field Hockey and

Girls on the Run. Jessica and her husband, CJ, have an infant daughter named Katie, and a golden

doodle called Cooper.

Marty came to Community in 1988. She completed her undergraduate work at Southeast Missouri State University and received a master's degree in education in counseling from Washington University, and her elementary and early childhood certification from the University of Missouri. Marty is a 2004 recipient of the "ISSL Teacher of Distinction" and the "Emerson Excellence in Teaching" awards. In 2005, her book Under Three Flags was published, which is about the early history of St. Louis. Marty's hobbies include dancing, bicycling, hiking, yoga, traveling, and reading. Mindy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Her teaching career started in the Hazelwood School district where she taught fourth grade for three years, two of those years as the fourth grade team leader. After her experience in Hazelwood, Mindy pursued a master's degree in education administration and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Robyn, a St. Louis native, lived in Austin, Texas for fourteen years. She taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade levels in the Leander Independent School District, specializing in math, science and social studies. During her tenure, Robyn helped create a new district math curriculum for 2nd and 3rd grades and taught accelerated math classes. She was nominated for Disney Teacher of the Year. Robyn graduated from Texas State University with honors in education. Megan received a B.S. in Psychology and a Masters in Elementary Education from Truman State University and recently earned her Educational Specialist degree in Mental Health Practices in Schools from University of Missouri. She has been teaching for fourteen years in St. Louis Public Schools, Community School and most recently as an English and social skills teacher at an international school in Dongguan, China. While living in China for three years, Megan studied Mandarin, taught English, and traveled South East Asia. She currently teachers the best grade in the world, fourth grade!

Maureen began her teaching career in a fifth grade classroom in rural Maine before serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer for two years in the Philippines with her husband (who happens to be Community School’s Art Teacher, Dave Lang). Their work focused on providing teachers at all levels, elementary through college, with professional development and training. Following her service abroad, Maureen worked for seven years with an educational non-profit. Maureen adores spending time with her family and two sons, traveling anywhere, gardening and being outdoors.

Mitzy Barnstead joined Community School as a Fifth Grade Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mitzy earned her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and her master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Lindenwood University. She went on to earn an Advanced Science Certificate from Washington University and an ELL (English Language Learner) Certification from UMSL’s TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program. Mitzy has been teaching for fourteen years at Iveland Elementary in the Ritenour School District alongside her husband, Adam Barnstead. During that time, she spent eight years teaching in the upper grades, four years as a Reading Specialist for K-5, and the last two years as an ELL teacher.



Mitzy and Adam have two children who attend Community School. Harper is a second grader and Quinn is in Junior Kindergarten. In her spare time, Mitzy loves being outdoors, reading, and spending time with family.

Joey Murphy is a Sixth Grade Teacher at Community School. Joey is a native Saint Louisan. He earned a bachelor of arts in religion from Princeton University in 2002. He was a member of the charter corps of Teach for America in Saint Louis where he taught fourth grade in the Saint Louis Public Schools. Joey went on to attend the Yale Divinity School where he earned a master’s of divinity in 2007. Since that time, Joey has spent six years teaching at a private high school, as well as working for over ten years with the Aim High program. He joined the Community School family in the fall of 2017 working in the school’s extended day program and Homework Club. Joey is a local sports and live music enthusiast.

Marieann is an Upper Division Science Teacher at Community School. Before relocating to Missouri, Marieann lived most of her life in New Jersey and graduated from Drew University with a B.A. in biology with a minor in biochemistry. 



Marieann was a laboratory research scientist at Unilever for 10 years in New Jersey but felt a calling to educate children after she started a family with her husband Michael. They have two children- Laura and Matthew. She received her MAT from Missouri Baptist University and currently teaches science with Kathy Lepsky in the Upper Division. In her spare time, Marieann likes to hike, cook, listen to music, and travel.

Amy Breier Kwentus joined Community School as the Lower Division P.E. Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Amy graduated from Rockhurst College with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and received a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Along with working in home health care, ICU to rehab, Amy has spent the last ten years teaching P.E. to lower division school children, as well as providing them OT services. She was published in Brain and Language in 2004 for Longitudinal fMRI study of aphasia recovery in frontal stroke. Amy has found that as a P.E. teacher for young children she is able to teach two of her passions, sports and educating children about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, as well as helping students with their gross motor skills.



Amy has three children, volunteers at her parish, loves anything to do with the outdoors, and is an avid biker, trail runner, and tennis/pickle ball player.

Jen Gosnell has joined Community School as our Academic Technology Specialist and Advancement Database Manager for the 2020-2021 school year. She received her bachelor’s degree in Russian Language and Literature from Middlebury College, and her master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She spent twenty-three years working at John Burroughs School, first as a librarian, and then as a computer teacher and academic technology specialist.



Jen is connected to Community School in many ways. Her daughter Maggie is a recent graduate, and Jen and her mother Judy Tisdale are alumnae, as well. Jen’s mother was Community School’s science teacher for thirty-eight years. In her spare time, Jen loves to garden and sit on her screened porch with a good book. She and Maggie have three cats. A fun fact: Jen spent five years working in Moscow as an interpreter and translator.

After a career in banking, Debbi spent 15 years as a homemaker and community volunteer, particularly enjoying those hours spent helping out in school libraries. Dave has been Community's art teacher since 2005. He received a bachelor of arts from Providence College in drawing, a bachelor of fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in video art, and his master's in teaching at the University of Maine. Prior to returning home to St. Louis, David and his wife, Maureen, also spent two years as US Peace Corps volunteers in the Philippines where they worked with teachers at all levels to improve critical thinking and assessment and evaluation skills. David enjoys the outdoors and traveling with his wife and two sons. He pursues his video installation artwork and has exhibited it in conjunction with the Pulitzer Foundation and The Luminary Center. He has also won several awards for his short film work. In 2010, David was the recipient of the ISSL Teacher of Distinction and Emerson Excellence in Teaching awards.

Before coming to Community in 1994, Lori taught at a local high school. She received a bachelor of arts in French and education from St. Louis University and completed her master of arts in teaching at Webster University in 1998. In addition to her French credentials, she is a certified reading specialist. Lori was selected to participate in the New Technologies Institute at Iowa State University, as well as the FLES Institute sponsored by Concordia College. Lori has also shared her knowledge of French as an instructor for St. Louis Community College’s Continuing Education and College for Kids Programs. Lori and her husband have two children, one a Community graduate and the other a current student. She currently serves on the board of directors for the St. Louis Language Immersion School.

Her teaching experience in independent schools spans multiple years at the elementary level, having taught junior kindergarten, second grade, third grade, and fourth grade. In addition, Abby was the 2014 recipient of the Yvonne Banks Caring Teacher Award while working at Lake Forest Country Day School in Lake Forest, IL. She is also a teacher trainer for the Math in Focus program and facilitates professional development for schools across the country. Alissa received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Directing from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota and is certified in Elementary Education as well as middle and high school English. Alissa was a founding member of Bedlam Theatre in Minneapolis and has worked in educational outreach, marketing, and development at Center Stage in Baltimore, and at Steppenwolf Theatre and Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. For the last fifteen years, Alissa has been adapting books and tales for performance and directing shows in schools. As a Teaching Artist with Springboard, she taught literacy and character education through the production of original plays and taught playwriting to fifth graders as part of the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis WiseWrite program. In her free time, Alissa enjoys writing plays, reading and spending time with her husband and three children. She is on the Board of the Kirkwood HighSchool Players.

Nancy holds a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science from Colorado State University, and joined Community in 2002. Nancy has taught P. E. both in the Webster Groves and Clayton School Districts. She has coached five different sports at the high school level (at five different high schools!). In addition, Nancy is a varsity Field Hockey coach at John Burroughs and a certified high school lacrosse official. She and her husband, Frank, have a daughter and a son, both graduates of Community School. In her spare time, Nancy enjoys playing and watching sports, coaching and photography.

Rita received a B.S. in elementary education as well as an M.A. in special education from the University of Missouri- St. Louis. She has more than twenty years of teaching experience working with grades four through eight. Prior to coming to Community School in 2012, she taught at Clayton Academy. Rita enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, as well as cooking, gardening, music and vacationing at the beach.

Wayne joined Community in 2011 after five years at John Burroughs School, where he was a middle school P.E. teacher, as well as basketball, volleyball, and track and field coach. He remains the head JV Volleyball coach there. He has a masters in health and physical education from Northwest Missouri State University and an undergraduate degree in recreation and administration from Oral Roberts University. Wayne was born in Negril, Jamaica, and is a professional beach volleyball player, and represented Jamaica in Olympic qualifying beach volleyball. When he isn't training, Wayne enjoys playing volleyball, basketball, and going camping.

Natalie received a bachelor of music education with an instrumental emphasis from Webster University. For the last ten years, Natalie has been running a private music studio with lessons in clarinet, saxophone, piano and music theory. She is a woodwind specialist and piano accompanist for various middle and high school band programs across the St. Louis region. She is also an active member of The Piano Teachers' Round Table, an organization dedicated to continuing education for piano teachers.
