Bonjour! Bienvenue dans la classe de français!*
Beginning in Nursery, students experience the sounds and structures of French. Songs, finger plays, stories, skits, and games engage them, and even the youngest children are soon singing away in French about butterflies, colors, numbers, and body parts. The combination of French and P.E. for the younger
students is a great way to integrate physical movement and activity with vocabulary. By the time students are in second grade, they are writing and performing skits in French.
Favorite projects for older students include role playing real-life activities like ordering in a café; the Ma Famille (My Family) project; and acting out stories with props. In addition to learning the language, French culture also receives considerable attention, especially through songs, games, literature, and food.
Students leave Community School confident in their ability to learn another language.
Au revoir!**
