Community School's yearlong construction project will greatly enhance classroom spaces for our oldest students, improve our kitchen and the quality of our food service, and enhance our roadways for safer and more efficient carpool drop-off and pick-up. These projects are truly exciting and will dramatically raise the quality of our facilities for both the Community School students of today and for students in generations to come. We'll use this space to keep you updated on the progress as well as bring you some of the latest construction pictures. Stay tuned to watch us grow!
November 2009 - The first phase of Community School's construction project is almost complete! The new Academic Wing is ahead of schedule, and students will be moving in after Winter Break. A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been scheduled for December 17. Everyone is truly excited to see this project come to fruition!
September 2009 - It is amazing to see how far we've come over the summer! The kitchen was fully up and operational the first week of school. The staff are truly enjoying the expanded work and storage space. The driveway is now two lanes, and has some beautiful landscaping along it. Even better, it incorporates permeable asphalt and all along the east side is a new rain garden - both of which are green methods to deal with water runoff. The new academic wing is progressing quickly as well - with bricks up on the exterior and roof almost finished.
July 2009 - Wow! After some slowdowns in June due to rain, the project is moving incredibly quickly now. The kitchen walls are up (bricked even), and they're working on the roof and the interior. The new wing's walls are up to the second floor, and the widened driveway is well on its way.
May 2009 - Back at work! Progress is moving quickly now. On the new wing, forms are being built and concrete is being poured! The electrical supply has been completely switched over and is now underground, and the phone lines will soon join them. The construction wall now has windows for the students to observe the construction, and students are painting murals on part of the wall. All in all, a very exciting month so far! Check back this summer for more updates and pictures!
Early April 2009 - April showers may bring May flowers - unfortunately, they're not very good for construction work! However, our new utility/electrical supply is up and in place.
Spring Break 2009 - Construction fences have gone up, both on the upper blacktop, and to form a walkway between the main buildng and shop/science. Ground clearing/excavation has begun for the new academic wing. The kitchen expansion is also underway. New conduit has been laid under the driveway, and new piping installed in the basement.
Groundbreaking - March 6, 2009 - What a beautiful day for a groundbreaking! 80+ degree weather and sunny skies provided the perfect atmosphere for a school full of hardhat-wearing kids proudly showing off banners they had made, and ooh-ing and aah-ing over construction vehicle tricks. KMOV Channel 4 was on hand to videotape the news. Click here to SEE THE VIDEO as well as check out the pictures and press releases.
