Curriculum Overview

At Community, the child is the heart of the School. Our mission statement, "Nurturing the Gifts of Mind, Body & Spirit," is reflected in the development of curriculum at all levels. Teachers at Community stimulate all modalities of a child's learning experience. Understanding both the developmental stages and the academic potential of children allows teachers to design curriculum rich in appropriate experience.

Our strong and balanced curricula features good literature, the development of secure computational and problem-solving skills, as well as creative writing. These, blended with science, social studies, and other language arts activities, are at the heart of the cognitive domain of the curriculum.

Curriculum is evaluated, enhanced and constructed through a well-developed process. On a regular cycle, each academic subject is reviewed; teachers and administrators blend the research of best practices with Community's well-established curriculum. Working with Division Directors, a teacher from each class meets in a subject committee to clarify current philosophy, grade level benchmarks and mastery benchmarks. Communication of curriculum standards is then discussed with each grade and the entire faculty. After curriculum is implemented, it is also mapped to ensure a challenging, spiraling curriculum from grade to grade.
